New Albany Window Tinting Association

The Louisville Zoo opened on May 1st, 1969. There were 250 animals in the exhibit. [4] The zoo was constructed on land that was acquired by the City of Louisville in the 1960s from the estate of Ben Collins. James Graham Brown, a local philanthropist donated an enormous portion of the funding for the initial construction.

Opening Day 1969 featured mostly exhibits with four-legged creatures such as elephants or giraffes. Zoo guests could ride an excursion train for visitors to the zoo across various exhibits. This was a popular attraction until 2019 and the trains were sold in 2021. Opening Day was criticized by visitors for the lack of shade across the entire zoo. Over time, tree growth has lessened the need for shade.
